Storing Lyophilised Research Compounds

Most peptide research materials are supplied lyophilised — freeze-dried — because the dry state dramatically slows degradation. Correct storage preserves that stability.

Long-term storage

Keep lyophilised vials at -20C in a sealed container with desiccant. Moisture ingress is the most common cause of degradation in stored peptides, so allow vials to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation.

Short-term and transit

Refrigerated conditions (2-8C) are acceptable for days to weeks depending on the compound, which is why standard courier transit does not compromise properly lyophilised material.

Light and handling

Store away from direct light, minimise freeze-thaw cycling, and log storage conditions for any material used in quantitative work. Stability varies by compound — consult the published literature for compound-specific data.
