Product Strength vs Research Concentration
Research materials are labelled by quantity (total compound, in mg) — not concentration. These are different things.
The three numbers
- Quantity (mg): total compound present, e.g. a 30mg vial.
- Volume (mL): the liquid volume in a prepared laboratory solution.
- Concentration (mg/mL): quantity divided by volume. 30mg in 3mL = 10mg/mL = 10,000 mcg/mL.
Why it matters
Two containers with the same quantity have different concentrations at different volumes — and identical aliquot volumes drawn from each contain different amounts. Laboratory calculations should always work from concentration, not label quantity alone.
Try it
The VQ Research Calculator (/calculator) performs these neutral conversions — quantity, volume, concentration and equal-aliquot maths — for laboratory use.
